What kind of experiences do YOU want to have in the Sussex Skylands?
We've got a whole lot of the great outdoors to enjoy along with two great resorts: Crystal Springs Resort with its 6 championship golf courses, 2 world class hotels and 12 seasonally inspired dining options, along with the nation's largest wine cellar (9,100 labels and 135,000+ bottles) and Mount Creek Resort where you'll hit the adventure sports jackpot with skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, golfing, a water park carved into the mountain, all-season ziplining and TreEscape Aerial Adventure Park. Did we mention all of this is located only 40 miles from New York City?
Visitors come for the scenery and the events including the New Jersey State Fair, Peter’s Valley Annual Fine Craft Fair, the New Jersey Wine and Food Festival, Michael Arnone’s Crawfish Fest, and the Rock, Ribs and Ridges Festival, just to name a few.
History more you're thing? There’s plenty of that along with an enduring geological mystery: a world-famous mineral deposit. Both the Franklin Mineral Museum and the Sterling Hill Mining Museum, located within 2 miles of each other, feature fantastic displays of "glow-in-the-dark" fluorescent minerals. Sterling Hill, the industrial complex that was once the Sterling Hill zinc mine, also offers underground mine tours, extensive outdoor displays of mining machinery, and exhibit halls packed with things most people have never seen before.
The Sussex Skylands is also home to New Jersey’s largest lake – Lake Hopatcong. Take a cruise along it’s 56 miles of shoreline and enjoy brunch, lunch or dinner aboard Lake Hopatcong Cruises' "Miss Lotta" the 57-foot-long, 16-foot-tall boat used for the excursions.
Visitors to the area will also enjoy beautiful fall foliage, casual and gourmet restaurants, antique shops, 7 state and federal parks with plentiful trails (including 40 miles of the Appalachian Trail) for hiking, biking, wildlife and bird observation.
