Building A Wooden Lantern with Ellen Kaspern

Come work with both machines and hand tools as you build a wooden lantern with a tin top. You will begin by constructing the case of the lantern out of mahogany. Everyone will make a wooden door for their lantern using frame and panel construction. We will hand-cut the glass to fit in the lanterns and go over different techniques for installing glass. You will design your own tin top for your lantern..Lastly, we will go over adding finishing details by installing a knob and latch to the lantern. Beginner and Beyond

Ellen Kaspern is a custom furniture maker and graduate of the North Bennet Street School's Cabinet & Furniture Making program. She owns Ellen Kaspern Design and is a member of the cooperative The Ellwood Shop in Concord, MA. In addition to designing and building custom furniture, she has been teaching woodworking at the North Bennet Street School for over a decade. Ellen demonstrates woodworking techniques throughout New England.
